Gardeners Delight Floriade 2022 & Keukenhof Garden
A Must For All Garden Lovers! Once Every Ten Years!
Once every 10 years, somewhere in The Netherlands, a town is transformed into a fabulous festival of flowers. Floriade 2022 World Horticultural Expo takes place in the Dutch town of Almere. Floriade is not only the world's ultimate flower show - spread over five themed zones across an enormous 66 hectares - it is also a celebration of plants, vegetables, fruit and produce. Gardeners from all over the world offer you the opportunity to enjoy the most exquisite and exceptional examples of horticulture found anywhere on Earth.
Keukenhof, the best day out among the flowers! Over 7 million bulbs will bloom this spring, with a total of 800 varieties of tulips. A unique, unforgettable experience! Besides the spacious 32 hectares of flowers you can enjoy the spectacular flower shows, surprising inspirational gardens, unique art and wonderful events
The gardens are built on 15th century hunting grounds, and were a source of herbs for Jacqueline, Countess of Hainaut’s castle (she was the last Wittelsbach ruler of Hainaut and Holland), which is where the name Keukenhof comes from – it means Kitchen Garden. In 1641, Captain Adriaen Maertensz Block of the Dutch East India Company had a house built there, which he lived in once he had retired.
The garden itself was established in 1949 by the then-Mayor of Lisse. It was meant as a garden where growers from all over the Netherlands and Europe could come to show their hybrid specimens, as well as helping the Dutch export industry. Holland remains the largest exporter of flowers in the world.
The Keukenhof features many gardens of different styles. For example, the English Landscape Garden, which has winding paths and unexpected vistas. The Historical Garden is an enclosed garden where you’ll find many old types of bulbs.
