Itinerary
Day 1
Morning departure from your local pickup point, we take a journey north into Scotland with comfort stops along the way. We will be staying overnight in the Edinburgh/Glasgow region.Day 2
After our first Scottish breakfast we visit the V&A museum in Dundee. Inspired by the rugged, dramatic cliffs along the east coast of Scotland, this iconic building showcases the brilliance of Scottish creativity and the best of design from around the world. Experience the remarkable story of design past, present and future and the vital contribution it makes to all our lives. View the exhibits in fields such as architecture, fashion, textiles, comic books and much more. Onwards to Grantown on Spey in the heart of the Cairngorms where we will stay for 4 nights.Day 3
Today we visit Balmoral. Although the castle will not be open to the public, we will be able to enjoy viewing the exterior of the magnificent white granite faced residence of the King, whilst taking a leisurely stroll around the grounds. There will also be the opportunity to visit the Mews Gift Shop and Cafe. We return to Grantown on Spey for some free time.Day 4
Heading north, today we visit Inverness. The capital of the Highlands is a compact city with plenty to offer. In the afternoon we enjoy a 75 minute cruise. As you sail out across the water enjoy the views of the Scottish Highlands and hear tales about the history of the area from our on-board commentary.Day 5
Travelling further into the Cairngorms, we take a journey on the Strathspey Railway. Joining at Aviemore station this ten mile restored section of the original Highland Railway Line enables you to travel back in time to an era when steam whistles blew, carriage doors slammed shut and there was a familiar click-clack rhythm of the rails, as the train travels along the track. It's the perfect way to enjoy the spectacular views around you. The train takes you past heather-clad moors and woodland travelling parallel with the Speyside Way. On our return to Aviemore there will be free time before returning to the hotel.Day 6
After breakfast we check out of the hotel and make our way to Edinburgh where we visit Palace of Holyrood House. Explore the Palace's close associations with some of Scotland’s most well-knownhistoric figures such as Mary, Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie, and learn how today it is used by The King when carrying out official engagements in Scotland. Highlights include the Throne Room which is used for receptions and other State occasions and the State Apartments with their beautiful plasterwork ceilings and unrivalled collection of French and Flemish tapestries. We continue onwards to our overnight hotel in the Edinburgh/Glasgow region.
