Tours at Resort
A | Bolton Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval structures in the UK and on arrival many are astounded by its colossal size. We are met by a costumed guide who lets us enter via the portcullis gate before showing and telling us the colorful history which includes holding Mary Queen of Scots prisoner for six months. The rest of the day is spent on a circular, scenic tour of the Dales travelling via Hawes, for a lunchtime stop at the home of Wensleydale Cheese, and Kirkby Stephens.
B | To the world-famous and award-winning open-air museum of Beamish, with history from 1820 to the 1950s. You can visit a sweet shop, pub, travel by tram and bus plus visit a pit. Everywhere you go there will be knowledgeable and costumed staff who you can ask any questions you may have. On our return we make a stop in the famous city of Durham.
C | Discover the Geordie jewels with a panoramic tour of the city and its surroundings with a local guide on all day. We begin at the iconic Angel of the North (with a wingspan larger than the Leaning Tower of Pisa!). Then to Gateshead Quays; explore the Baltic Art Gallery with its stunning Tyneside views and marvel at the Millennium Bridge. Then to the coast and breathe in the fresh sea air in Tynemouth, famed for its spectacular views over the North Sea, then Whitley Bay’s golden sandy beach. Finally, uncover the fabulous history of Seaton Delaval Hall and picture their extravagant 18th-century lifestyle, all set amidst the hall’s dramatic English Baroque design and enchanting gardens.
Friday We return home with a lunch break in Bakewell, a great small town to explore and home to the famous pudding.
