Itinerary
Itinerary
Thursday We make our way north to Heysham and the three-and-a-half-hour ferry crossing to the Isle of Man.
Friday To Ramsey, a bustling town with a busy shopping street, harbour and beach. Then to Peel, an olde-worlde fishing port noted for its kippers. Lovely scenery all day.
Saturday We catch the unique Manx Electric Railway from Douglas to Laxey. The line still operates with most of its original Victorian and Edwardian rolling stock. In Laxey we transfer to the Snaefell Mountain Railway for a ride to the summit. The ride takes about thirty-minutes and offers amazing views of Laxey Glens and the surrounding countryside. We return via the Mountain Railway and the Electric Railway and have the rest of the day free to explore Douglas.
Sunday We enjoy an hour-long, single journey you will never forget on the Isle of Man Victorian Steam Railway, described as ‘perfectly frozen in time’, from Douglas to Port Erin with its crystal-clear waters and beautiful setting and we spend some time there. We then view the Calf of Man (look out for the seals!) before visiting Castletown which was the island’s former capital with its narrow streets, quaint houses, and a mediaeval castle.
Monday We return to the mainland and the journey home.
