Itinerary

Itinerary

Saturday North and we spend time at Liverpool’s famous Albert Dock before continuing to our overnight hotel: Delta Hotel by Marriott near Preston. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi and a gym.

Sunday Into Scotland and we make a lunch time stop in Stirling, a small city with a big history, plus historic attractions, and spectacular scenery. Then on to Montrose which boasts an attractive town centre and has a wide sandy beach.

Monday We spend today at stunning Balmoral where we discover the castle’s fascinating history, famous residents and visit the largest room in the castle, the Ballroom. We can also visit the exhibitions and, covering three acres, the beautiful formal gardens that feature a large garden kitchen and a range of Victorian glasshouses full of flowering pot plants and a water garden. We take a different route to and from Balmoral to take in the scenery of the Cairngorms National Park.

Tuesday Along the coastal road to Aberdeen and we visit the Gordon Highlander Museum which celebrates the story of the regiment if the same name and its 200 years of history with memorabilia and even a replica WWII trench. Then the remainder of the day is yours to explore the city, spend time in the merchant quarter or relax in one of the many parks and award-winning gardens.

Wednesday To the 18th century House of Dun, an elegant Georgia country house designed with baroque extravagance. We have a guided tour as costumed guides reveal the history of the house and its people. Outside there are beautiful formal gardens we can explore. Later we discover what daily life is like on a scottish farm at Newton Farm. There is time to pet and feed the animals and we round off the visit with a hot drink and some home baked treats.

Thursday We depart Montrose and our route south allows us to cross two famous bridges over the River Tay and the Firth of Forth on the way back to our overnight hotel, the Holiday Inn in Preston.

Friday We return south and head for home.
