Itinerary
Monday We head to Melton Mowbray, famous for its pork pies and Stilton cheese with gardens alongside the river. Then on to our hotel and on arrival we have tea and coffee plus the local specialty of Plum Bread and Poacher Cheese.Tours at Resort
A | We spend the day in the stunning city of Lincoln, crowned by the Cathedral, one of Europe’s finest examples of Gothic architecture.
B | To nearby Eastons Gardens where we have a meet and greet followed by time to explore the estate and walled gardens that have been 450 years in the making. The snowdrops spread across both banks of the river and release wafts of perfume on sunny days. Later we make a short stop at Springfields near Spalding. There are shops, places to eat and the Festival Gardens which is a beautifully landscaped area featuring Chelsea-style celebrity showcase gardens.
C | Our first stop is International Bomber Command which is a world class facility acknowledging the efforts, sacrifices and commitment of the men and women, from 62 different nations, who came together in Bomber Command in WWII. There are also two peace gardens, set out over 10 acres of landscaped grounds with native trees from all 27 Bomber Command Stations worldwide. Later, we head over to the picturesque town of Newark-on-Trent, an authentic British market town, full of historical streets, castles, cakes, and boutiques! You can unveil the unique character shaped by the ruins of Newark Castle, present as early as the year 1068, where Oliver Cromwell fought battles against the Royalists and King John was poisoned.
Friday We call at Stamford, an ancient town of mellow stone and full of old world charm. Middlemarch was filmed here, and its market day on a Friday.
