Itinerary
Monday We travel north on a scenic route via Bridgnorth and enjoy a lunch time stop in Shrewsbury enroute to our hotel.
Tuesday We make a short morning stop at Bolton Abbey, the amazing ruins of a priory surrounded by the ‘jewel in the crown’ of Yorkshire’s many landscapes. Then we enjoy a return ride on the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, an evocative steam ride in beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages with fine views. Then to the idyllic market town of Pateley Bridge with its award-winning high street that looks as if it was designed for postcards.
Wednesday Steeped in history and natural scenic beauty, the Leeds Liverpool canal is a truly fascinating waterway. Departing from Skipton our skipper unravels the 200-year-old tale of the canal while passing through spectacular scenery, mill buildings and swing bridges. The trip includes tea/ coffee and biscuits. Following free time for lunch we board a train to Carlisle whic includes the famous 72 mile stretch from Settle to Carlisle. This journey is steeped in history, and it takes us through magnificent Yorkshire Dale scenery, over the 24 arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct and through the gentle, lush, rolling hills of the Eden Valley.
Thursday Into the Yorkshire Dales for a scenic, circular tour by coach. First stop is the Ribblehead Viaduct, this time for a photo opportunity, and then on to Hawes, one of the UK’s highest market towns and famous as being the home of Wensleydale Cheese.
