Itinerary

Itinerary

Thursday We stop for lunch in Warwick in the shadow of its famous castle. Then on to our 4-star hotel.

Tours at Resort
A | We have an exclusive and intimate tour of Renishaw, the home of the Sitwell family for almost 400 years. This grand country house plays host to a glorious collection of art, furniture and family heirlooms, collected over generations. Indulge in a lavish afternoon tea before discovering the quaint woodland, tranquil lake and magnificent Italianate gardens, first laid out over a hundred years ago, with the Middle Lawn replanted to a design by RHS Chelsea Award Winner, Arne Maynard. Please note that this is a lived-in property, therefore the house tour is on the ground floor
only and explores eight rooms.

B | Return to the classic days of railway travel as we hop aboard the Churnet Valley Railway’s heritage carriage behind a beautifully restored locomotive on a delightful 10½ mile return journey through Staffordshire Moorlands, on the outskirts of the Peak District. We also wander Ashbourne’s cobbled streets, full of quaint Georgian heritage.

C | To Cromford Mills and we journey along streets designed by Sir Richard Arkwright, the ‘Father of the Factory System’, and selfmade man who created the world’s first successful water powered cotton spinning mill here in 1771. Part of the UNESCO Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site, we follow in the footsteps of hundreds of mill workers with a village tour, as immerse ourselves in the history of this industrial heartland, juxtaposed with its picturesque present. After a light lunch we also visit Matlock Bath, known as ‘Little Switzerland,’ on account of its magnificent views and with a
long high street lined with cafes and quirky shops.

Monday We return with a lunch time stop in Stratford-upon-Avon.
