Itinerary
Itinerary
Sunday North and over the border to our hotel in Peebles where we are met with shortbread and a hot drink.Itinerary updated: 26/6/24
Monday Our first visit is Thirlestane Castle, a 16th century 5 story tower house in unmissable rose-pink sandstone with fairy-tale turrets, where we are met with a piper’s welcome! We are here out of hours and get a guided tour. Then free time in Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh.
Tuesday To Gelnkinchie Distillery for a tour and tasing at the lowland home of Johnie Walker with whisky evoking fragrant flowers, dried cut glass and nutty cereal. Later to Jedburgh Castle Jail, dubbed the most comfortable jail in Scotland, with the appearance of a grand castle. It is a 4-star visitor experience giving a true taste of 1820’s prison life as well as being the town museum. We can walk the original cells with a storyteller who brings the experience to life.
Wednesday To an iconic country house rather than a fortress, Floors castle is the largest inhabited house in Scotland, home to 11 generations of Duke of Roxburghe. A true fairytale – we can discover collections of fine art, porcelain, tapestries in grand rooms set among 52,000 acres of Borders landscapes, and stunning Victorian walled gardens show piecing inspired collections. After visiting the castle we have a tour of the gardens. PLEASE NOTE The castle roof is undergoing a conservation project so there may be some sound and visual disruption. Free time in the town of Peebles before we return to our hotel.
