Tours at Resort
A | To Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens, a Grade I listed country house and UNESCO World Heritage Site with roots dating back to the Saxon era. Inside, you’ll find exquisite furniture by Robert Gillow and Thomas Chippendale. The award-winning formal gardens feature over 200 rose varieties, apple trees, and the UK’s widest silver fir. We’re welcomed personally before a guided tour—including a tasting of their celebrated marmalades. From there, we journey through the heart of the scenic Lake District, passing Rydal Water, Grasmere, and Thirlmere, before arriving in Ambleside. The day concludes with a dramatic drive over Kirkstone Pass, offering sweeping views of Windermere. Expect stunning scenery throughout—we’ll see seven lakes in total!
B | Into the Pennines and views all day as we climb all the way up to the Hartside Top, where we take a short break to enjoy the views back as far as the Lake District. Then on to the market town of Hexham. Hexham has an excellent range of specialist and independent shops to explore and is often described as one of the best places to live in the UK. We return via the B6318 from Chollerford to Gilsland which follows the course of Hadrian’s Wall.
Wednesday The holiday is not over as we make another drive over the Kirkstone Pass in the opposite direction and make a stop in Bowness-on-Windermere. We continue along the eastern edge of Windermere with some great views, before heading south.
