We have a private tour at Cawdor Castle and Gardens, complete with moat, drawbridge, and turrets. Finally, we visit the award-winning Highland Folk Museum and learn more about the area as it is brought to life by costumed guides amongst restored buildings. Itinerary

Itinerary

Sunday We head north into Scotland the 4 star Holiday Inn Dumfries.

Monday
We make a lunchtime stop in Stirling, a small city with a big history. Then into the Scottish Highlands and the Cairngorm National Park and on to our hotel for four nights.

Tours at Resort

A | We start by following in the footsteps of Queen Victoria and sail from Dochgarrock on a two-hour Loch Lomond Cruise, with panoramic views of Aldourie Castle, Bona Lighthouse and much more! Then a traditional Scottish castle fortress - Cawdor Castle, dating from 1370 and inhabited by the Cawdor family for over 600 years. It was built around a legendary holly tree and made famous in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. We have a meet and greet with an expert and then are free to explore. The house also has Scotland’s oldest walled garden, with symbolic mazes and flower gardens flanked by moats, drawbridges, and turrets.

B | A beautiful drive through the Cairngorms to Braemar and the Highland Games Centre where we have a private tour and demonstration. We also pass the Royal residence of Balmoral.

C | We stay local today but still have two great experiences. First, we delve into the past and discover Highland living at the Highland Folk Museum which is set over 80 acres with live actors plus restored buildings bring Highland history to life. Then a completely unique experience as we see up to eight sheepdogs working as a team maneuvering sheep through various obstacles over a 45-minute demonstration, all amidst some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland.

Friday A different route home as we pass Fort William with wonderful Highland Scenery and views of Ben Nevis. Then we pass through Glencoe and pass by Loch Lomond on the way to our overnight hotel, The 4-star Gretna Hall in Gretna Green.

Saturday We return home.
