Itinerary
Monday We travel North with a lunchtime break in Bakewell, with fine views across the Peak District.
Tuesday All day is free to explore York including a 45-minute river cruise at 1030.
Wednesday To Pickering where we spend time before we enjoy a ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway all the way to Whitby. With magnificent steam engines, beautiful rural stations, and smartly uniformed staff it is like taking a step back in time. The remainder of the day is spent in Whitby, a maritime city steeped in history with a maze of narrow streets full of shops. We return via Scarborough to complete a scenic circular tour and a great day!
Thursday We spend the day at nearby Castle Howard, one of Britain’s finest stately homes. It is a magical place so take your time to explore the glorious gardens and the unique and theatrical architecture of the house. We return to our hotel via a stop in the Yorkshire Moors market town of Thirsk, allowing us to enjoy a round trip.
Friday We return with a lunchtime stop in Chesterfield, famous for its crooked spire and today is market day.
