Sunday We begin our journey north with a lunchtime stop in the historic city of Ripon, founded over 1,300 years ago. Take time to admire its impressive 7th-century cathedral and enjoy the charm of this ancient market town before continuing to our hotel in Newcastle.
Monday Today we visit the spectacular Alnwick Gardens, where you’ll discover acres of fascinating plants, imaginative water sculptures, the infamous Poison Garden, and one of the world’s largest treehouses. Alnwick Gardens was used as a filming location in the iconic first two Harry Potter films! Later, we enjoy a scenic drive through Rothbury and Otterburn, stopping in the attractive market town of Hexham to stretch our legs and soak in the local atmosphere.
Tuesday We travel to the historic city of Durham for a relaxing one-hour cruise aboard the Prince Bishop River Cruiser, offering stunning views of the Cathedral, Castle, and iconic bridges. Afterwards, enjoy free time to explore Durham’s charming streets, shops, and heritage sites. On our return, we pause for a photo opportunity at the striking Angel of the North sculpture.
Wednesday Today’s scenic drive takes us along the beautiful Northumberland coast to the seaside village of Bamburgh, where you’ll have time to explore and visit the impressive Bamburgh Castle, with breathtaking views of the Farne Islands. On our way back, we make a short stop in the lively coastal town of Seahouses, known for its harbour and traditional seaside charm.
Thursday We begin our journey home with a lunchtime stop in Wetherby, a picturesque market town dating back to 1240, nestled on the banks of the River Wharfe. Enjoy a stroll through its riverside gardens or browse the local shops before continuing home.
