We depart and make our way to Francevia the ferry then on to Metz for our overnight staywith bed and breakfast.
We make our way to Toscolano Madernowhere we arrive at our hotel with time to settle inprior to dinner this evening.
Today, we will drive to the attractivemedieval spa town of Sirmione, known for thehealing properties of its thermal springs. Set on abeautiful peninsula jutting into the southern part ofLake Garda, step back in time as you explore thenarrow cobbled streets, and the 13th centuryScaligera Castle in one of the most picturesqueparts of the lake.
This morning, we will visit the town of Salò,the renowned port and entrance to the Riviera deiLimoni. Traces of its prestigious past can be seenalong the main street in the elegant historic centrelined with beautiful buildings, pretty boutiques andrestaurants. Boasting the longest promenade onthe lake, it was also home to Mussolini and theRepublic of Salo during WWII, and you may want tolearn more about this in the town’s museum. In theafternoon, we will visit Gardone Riviera, a small yetbeautiful resort with a piazza sloping towards thelakeshore and a peaceful promenade oncefrequented by Winston Churchill who was a regularguest at the Grand Hotel Gardone. We will board aboat to the romantic private island of Isola delGarda, and enjoy a guided tour of the gardens andparts of the neo-gothic Villa Borghese Cavazza, stillhome to the noble Cavazza family with its strongBritish links.
Today, we enjoy a day at leisure inToscolano. We can walk to the pretty port andbeach area of Maderno and relax, enjoying thebeautiful views.
One of the best kept secrets in NorthernItaly is the little town of Mantova with its stunningPalazzo Ducale. We return to our hotel and spendthe remainder of the afternoon relaxing by the poolprior to dinner this evening.
Today we visit San Martino della Battagliasouth of the lake where the small churchcommemorates the Battle of Solferino which wasthe defnitive battle between Italy and Franceagainst Austria in 1859. The area behind the altar ishome to hundreds of human skulls - casualties ofthe battle and quite thought provoking (and veryunusual!). Later we then visit the beautiful riversidevillage of Borghetto for a wander amongst thequaint buildings and shops.
Today we will begin our journey back toMetz for our fnal overnight with bed and breakfast.
Our journey continues to our cross channelferry bringing us back to England then on to theWest Country.

150 metres from the lakefront and a small
pebble beach. All bedrooms are en suite and
equipped with TV and hairdryer. Bedrooms
within the main building are accessible by lift
and ground oor rooms are available in the
