We depart and make our way toLincolnshire and our hotel for the next 4nights with dinner, bed and breakfast.
Today we visit the historic city ofLincoln with its magnificent cathedral andNorman Castle. First, we meet our guide for afamiliarisation tour of the city on the coach,then you have time to explore the town witha labyrinth of little alleyways and interestingshops. This afternoon we visit the historicmarket town of Newark-on-Trent with its 12thcentury castle, market place and GeorgianTown Hall.
After breakfast we visit the oldEnglish town of Melton Mowbray where wehave the morning to explore and maybe enjoyone of the famous pork pies from ‘Ye OldePork Pie Shoppe’ as well as local cheese. Thisafternoon we continue to Rutland and itstraditional market town of Oakham, with itsmany book and antique shops together withthe towns heritage attractions including theButter Cross, 14th century church, RutlandCounty Museum and Norman Castle.
This morning we travel to Stamford,best known for its 17th and 18th centurystone buildings and timber framed houses.It has become a popular location for manyperiod dramas such as Pride and Prejudice andMiddlemarch. After lunch we visit BurghleyHouse, designed by William Cecil, Lord HighTreasurer to Queen Elizabeth I. Home togenerations of the Cecil family, the house withover 100 rooms is set in 18th century parklandand gardens
After breakfast we depart for home.
