Sister Act: The Musical

at the Eventim Apollo Theatre, Hammersmith London

Performance: 7.30pm evening show

Due to ongoing government restrictions resulting in a further delay to the production Jamie Wilson and Whoopi Goldberg, the producers of Sister Act - The Musical, have sadly announced that it is impossible to open the show at London's Eventim Apollo this summer. The performances are now rescheduled to begin in July 2022.

This necessary change of dates now means that Whoopi Goldberg will no longer be able to appear in the role of Deloris Van Cartier.

Whoopi Goldberg said today, “Sister Act is near and dear to my heart and I'm disappointed that I will be unable to perform in this production under the circumstances.

However, my producing partners and I will continue to work towards mounting a fantastic production, with an amazing new cast and we look forward to presenting it when it can be done safely for everyone and the audience.”

Producer Jamie Wilson says “This new version of Sister Act The Musical has been in development for several years now and both Whoopi and I are committed to launching this celebratory, joyous and life affirming production with audiences in the UK. We are now in the process of putting together a star-studded cast and will be able to share this news with you soon. We look forward to us all supporting and celebrating theatre when we return to the stage. It will be worth the wait”.

Who will star as Deloris Van Cartier opposite Jennifer Saunders who will be Mother Superior in Sister Act, coming to the Eventim Apollo next summer for just 39 performances. Based on the iconic movie, Deloris Van Cartier is a lounge singer who transforms the Holy Order of the Little Sisters of Our Mother of Perpetual Faith's choir to be funky, fun and fabulous baby!

Placed on a witness protection programme, Deloris Van Cartier hides at a convent in an attempt to never be found. Clashing with the Mother Superior, she struggles to fit in with her fellow sisters until she lends a hand to the struggling choir. Transforming the choir into the biggest stars in town, will Deloris be able to keep her real identity a secret, or will she rediscover a new voice that's been hidden for years? A sparkling, upbeat tribute to the power of soulful music, friendship and sisterhood, find your theatrical calling and see Sister Act in London.
