Monday
We depart and make our way toIronbridge Gorge with time to learn about theindustrial revolution and immerse yourselfin the sights and smells of Old England atthe open air village of Blists Hill, a perfectlyrecreated Victorian town with authentic shopsand craft workshops. We then continue to ourhotel for the next 4 nights with dinner, bed &breakfast.
Tuesday
Today we have a journey on theSnowdon Mountain Railway which begins atLlanberis and continues past waterfalls andan ancient oak forest before climbing thespectacular ridge to the summit. Stop off atthe Victorian resort of Betws y Coed, set in abeautiful valley in the Snowdonia Forest Park.See the Swallow Falls, considered to be one ofthe loveliest spots of North Wales where theriver rushes down from the mountains.
Wednesday
Our first visit today is toPortmeirion where a young Welsh architectmade his childhood dream come true anddesigned his architectural vision around aMediterranean piazza, rebuilding loggias,grand porticoes and tiny terracotta roofedhouses painted in bright colours. Later wevisit the idyllic coast resort of Porthmadog tocatch the train to the slate quarrying town ofBlaenau Ffestioniog. The historic train climbsover 700 feet from sea level clinging on tothe side of mountains and winding throughtranquil pastures and magnificent forests, pastlakes and waterfalls and horseshoe bends.
Thursday
After breakfast we travel to Carrogto begin the day’s adventure by boarding asteam train on the Llangollen Railway throughthe picturesque Dee valley to Llangollen. Fromhere we take a gentle ride on a horse drawnboat trip on the Llangollen Canal over themighty Pontcysylte Aquaduct, an 18 archedstone and cast iron construction known as the“Stream in the Sky”, the highest in the world.
Friday
After breakfast we depart for home.
