Today we make our way to Alnwick forthe day which were the inspiration of theDuchess of Northumberland. We include a visitto the delightful Alnwick Gardens. Alnwick Castleis the home of the Duke of Northumberland, whose family have lived there since 1309 andthe Castle has recently featured in the HarryPotter films.

Leaving after breakfast our day beginswith a visit to the villages of Ford and Etal withits visitor centre including steam railway, castles, paintings, cafe and tea rooms. Whilst here weinclude a visit to Lady Waterford Hall a ride onthe Heatherslaw steam light railway, and a visitto the Heatherslaw cornmill, England’s mostnortherly working water mill. From here we headfor the Scottish Borders region at Coldstreamand continue along the Tweed Valley to Kelso.Flemish in style, its wide cobbled market squareand gracious Georgian buildings make it without doubt the most attractive town in the region. We return to Bamburgh in time for dinner.

Today’s excursion takes us acrossthe causeway to Holy Island and the mysteriousLindisfarne Castle – visible in the distance fromBamburgh. We return to Bamburgh for free time, maybe to visit the majestic castle on the beach,or the Grace Darling Museum.

We journey through beautifulcountryside to the capital of Coquetdale,Rothbury, with its riverside setting of wide openspaces and delightful scenery. From here wehead for magnificent Cragside House, now in thecare of the National Trust. Cragside was the firsthouse to be lit by electricity – a wonder of theVictorian age. The house is fascinating, thegardens are spectacular with towering conifers, rocky crags, waterfalls and more. NOTE: The crossing of the causeway to HolyIsland is governed by tide times. It may benecessary to amend this excursion.
