We depart and make our waytravelling north arriving at the Gisborough HallHotel late afternoon where we enjoy 4 nightsstay with dinner, bed and breakfast.

Our first visit today is to Preston Parkand the Hall Museum. Take a walk back in timethrough the cobbled Victorian street andimagine life as it was in times past. At PrestonHall we join the ‘Teesside Princess’ and take agentle cruise on the River Tees through beautifulcountryside to the cobbled town of Yarm,famous for its location on the river and theawe-inspiring railway viaduct. In the afternoonwe drive through Bilsdale - “Little Switzerland”,and past the Sun Inn, which has had the samelandlord for 200 years! We then pass RievaulxAbbey, and drop into Helmsley with its 12thcentury castle. On the way back to the hotel wejourney over the spectacular Sutton Bank, givingyou fantastic views of the moors and across theVale of York.

Today we visit Thirsk, home ofJames Herriot, and a chance to take in theacclaimed World of James Herriot Centre.Afterwards we experience a piece of history andwe ride on the ‘Wensleydale Railway’, newlyopened after sleeping for over fifty years. Laterwe end the day with a visit to Richmond whereyou will find a castle, the tiny Georgian Theatre,The Green Howards Museum and theRichmondshire Museum, which houses the ‘set’from “All Creatures Great & Small”.

We travel over the moors, acrossBlakey Ridge, through picturesque Hutton-le-Hole to Pickering, where we join the NorthYorkshire Moors Railway for a steam trainjourney through rugged moorland to Whitby –passing through Goathland – ‘Aidensfield’ inTV’s ‘Heartbeat’ – on the way. Whitby is amaritime town, fishing port and seafarer’shaven, bursting with character is unique.Wander the alleyways and narrow streets andperhaps climb the steps up to Whitby Abbey.

After breakfast we depart for home.
