We depart and make our way toCumbria arriving late afternoon at theDamson Dene Hotel for 4 nights with dinner,bed and breakfast
Tuesday
Today we drive to Bowness,delightfully located on the shores of LakeWindermere where we have time to lookaround before we catch the ‘steamer’ fromBowness Pier for the relaxing sail to thesouthern tip of the lake at Lakeside. Fromhere we visit genteel Grange-over-Sandswith spectacular views across MorecambeBay. Enjoy a gentle sea front stroll and a lookround before we return to the hotel
Wednesday
We begin with a drive toSedbergh, England’s book town, where wetake a short break before moving onwardsto cross Ravenstonedale Common to KirkbyStephen and Brough on the way to the former county town of Westmoreland, Appleby.This afternoon we ride along the shore ofUllswater, said to be the most beautiful lakeof them all. We halt awhile in Glenriddingbefore climbing over rugged Kirkstone Pass,with the lonely pub at the top and descend toWindermere to return to the hotel.
Thursday
Today we begin with a drive alongthe roads of the Grizedale Forest Park,passing Graythwaite Hall and EsthwaiteWater to Ambleside. We take a break hereand have time to look around. From herewe head north past Dunmail Raise and LakeThirlmere to Keswick, the thriving main townof the northern lakes, situated within walkingdistance of Derwentwater. Our return journeytakes us back along Thirlmere to the World ofBeatrice Potter Museum in Windermere.
Friday
After breakfast we depart for home.
