We depart and make our way eastarriving at the Bridgewood Manor Hotel lateafternoon for 4 nights with dinner, bed andbreakfast
Our day begins with a ride todelightful Faversham, nestling between therural gently sloping Downs and the austereNorth Kent marshes. From here we continueto historic Canterbury where the city isdominated by the magnificent cathedral,now a World Heritage Site. There is a mazeof intriguing side streets with a rich varietyof specialist shops and welcoming cafes andpubs in which to relax.
This morning we head forsouthern Kent and the land of mysteriousmarshes and smugglers. First we come toNew Romney, a Cinque Port since 1155, theGreat Storm of 1287 changed the course ofthe River Rother and made New Romneyan inland town. Next we arrive at Lydd. Inthe 18th and 19th centuries the town wasnotorious for the activities of ‘owlers’ (Localsmugglers hooting to each other at dead ofnight).
y Today’s excursion takes us firstto Chatham and the famous Historic NavalDockyard. This vast maritime heritagesite offers the visitor much to see, withan abundance of historic buildings datingfrom 1704, three warships, dry docks, RoyalDockyard Museum and much more. Thisafternoon we visit the city of Rochester withits magnificent cathedral and historic castle.Take a stroll along High Street and explore theold town and cobbled streets
After breakfast we depart for home
