entirely encircles the old city. From here, we take in some of the loveliest towns
and villages of this beautiful region, offering us an insight into the Provençal way of life!

We make our way to London St PancrasStation where we board the Eurostar for ourjourney to Avignon. On arrival we are transferredto our hotel for the next 5 nights with dinner,bed and breakfast.
We spend today at leisure, allowing ustime to explore the beautiful city of Avignon, seton the banks of the Rhône with dramatic viewsof its 800 year old medieval rampartssurrounding the magnificent Palais des Papes.The famous Pont d’Avignon of nursery rhymefame sits majestically half way across the Rhôneand the city teems with cobbled streets, quaintboutiques and leafy squares. We recommend aguided tour of the Palais des Papes or, for thosewho like to take things at a slower pace, there isthe option of a 1 hour afternoon boat cruise onthe Rhône to see the majestic city from the river(extra).
This morning, we make our way tothe commune of Châteauneuf du Pape. Mostfamous for its fine wine, we can explore thenarrow, twisting, medieval lanes and stop at thePlace de la Fontaine before discovering the artgalleries, artisan workshops and of course,numerous wine tasting cellars. The Musée duVin, displaying the history of Châteauneuf duPape wine and its vineyards along with ancienttools and presses, is well worth a visit as are theRomanesque church and the village’s twochapels. Whilst here, we enjoy wine tasting atthe Cave du Verger des Papes vineyard, beforewe head to the Roman town of Orange. Here, wecan spend time discovering its ancient historiccentre, picturesque squares, cathedral, museumand famous Roman Theatre and Triumphal Arch.
This morning, we visit Pont du Gard,home of the ancient Roman aqueduct thatcrosses the Gardon River near the town ofVers-Pont-du-Gard. We visit the Pont du GardMuseum, at the crossroads of history andtechnology. The museum traces the history ofthe Roman aqueduct with models, virtualreconstructions, multimedia screens and soundsdrawing visitors into the ancient Roman world.In the afternoon, we visit the attractive town ofNîmes which was an important outpost of theRoman Empire and is full of well-preservedRoman monuments.
Today we visit typical Provençal villageswhere we can experience a slower pace of life.We start by visiting L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue andtoday is market day. We can meander throughthe narrow lanes filled with market stalls beforetravelling to the charming village of St Remy deProvence to obtain lunch, with its pretty squaresand fountains. In the afternoon, we visit theextraordinary Carrières Lumières near les Bauxenabling us to escape the heat of the afternoon.This former quarry presents art-basedmultimedia shows, projecting images of famouspaintings set to music - a true spectacle! Afterour illuminating visit, we make our way back toAvignon.
Today, we must say farewell toAvignon and back by Eurostar to London StPancras where our coach will be waiting totransfer you back to the West Country

All bedrooms are en suite with TV, hairdryer, and tea/coffee making facilities.
The large open plan ground floor contains both the bar and restaurant and opens
