The Royal Hospital Chelsea is the home of the iconic Chelsea Pensioners, who are all retired soldiers of the British Army. Since 1692 we have offered care and comradeship for veterans in recognition of their loyal service to the Nation. The Chelsea Pensioners are the iconic faces of the UK's veteran community. They reside at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, their 325-year-old home founded by King Charles II in the heart of London. Here, we offer excellent accommodation, comradeship and the highest standards of care for veterans of the British Army in recognition of their loyal service to the Nation. Any former soldier of the British Army over the age of 65, who is facing spending their advanced years alone, can apply for residence as an In-Pensioner.
Some 300 army veterans live at the Royal Hospital today, including those who have served in Korea, the Falkland Islands, Cyprus, Northern Ireland and World War II. Others may not have served in campaigns, but all understand what it means to be a soldier and the potential sacrifice that it entails.
The Royal Hospital is a Grade I and II listed site, a beautiful architectural legacy left to us by Charles II and Sir Christopher Wren. Maintenance of the site continues today with ongoing restoration work to ensure that this legacy lives on into the future. As we are first and foremost a residence, we operate slightly differently to other Heritage sites. Tours run to work with the schedule of the Royal Hospital and its 300 In Pensioner residents.
Again have free time to go off and explore until departure at 4pm when you will head for home.
PLEASE NOTE: Price is per person and based on two people sharing a twin/double room. Single room supplements and upgrades are not included.
