Holiday Summary

  • Travel Type: Coach

Chatsworth is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. The house is renowned for the quality of its art, landscape and hospitality, and it has evolved through the centuries to reflect the tastes, passions and interests of succeeding generations. The Chatsworth Park covers 1,000 acres and is enclosed by a dry stone wall that is 15 kilometres long and a deer fence.

Today, Chatsworth contains works of art that span 4,000 years, from ancient Roman and Egyptian sculpture, and masterpieces by Rembrandt, Reynolds and Veronese, to work by outstanding modern artists, including Lucian Freud, Edmund de Waal and David Nash. There are over 25 rooms to explore, from the magnificent Painted Hall, regal State Rooms, restored Sketch Galleries and beautiful Sculpture Gallery.

Everything you can buy at Chatsworth - from food and drink to books and china - reflects the exceptional quality of the house, collection and estate. Explore the Orangery shop at the end of the house route and relax in the garden or the Stables for something to eat.

The gardens are famous for its rich history, historic and modern waterworks and sculptures, and its Victorian rock garden, there is something for everyone in the 105-acre Chatsworth Garden. The garden is the product of nearly 500 years of careful cultivation. Although some points of interest have been replaced to make way for new fashions, the garden retains many early features, including the Canal Pond, Cascade and 1st Duke's Greenhouse.
