Skipton Canal - FreepikDay 1 Morning departure travelling to Harrogate arriving during the afternoon at the Old Swan Hotel for a four night stay.
Days 2 to 4 We have included the following excursions:
After breakfast, head for Harewood House - one of the Treasure Houses of England set in the heart of rural Yorkshire. The house holds an impressive art collection, all combined with 100 acres of gardens and a renowned lakeside Bird Garden. This afternoon we head to the market town of Skipton, known as the ‘Gateway to the Dales’. The High Street leads up to the church, behind which you see the impressive 900-year-old castle, one of the most complete and best- preserved castles in England.
Today head for historic York, where you have the day to explore this fascinating city at leisure. Perhaps visit the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Centre, walk around the City Walls or the little streets and alleyways of the Shambles. Not forgetting, of course, the magnificent York Minster.
- Free morning to explore Harrogate and stroll round the delightful Victorian arcades and perhaps enjoy tea and cake at the famous Betty’s Tearooms. Later you have an early dinner before travelling to Ripon and have a behind the scenes guided tour of the awesome Ripon Cathedral, followed by one of the oldest English traditions kept alive for hundreds of years without a break. At 21.00 hours the Ripon Hornblower sets the night watch from each corner of the obelisk in the centre of the square to reassure citizens that all is well.
