Day 1 Morning departure for the journey to Dover and the sea crossing to Calais. Continuing on into Belgium and to Menen and the hotel for a three night stay.
Day 2 Today you will visit the Flanders Battlefields around Ypres, beginning with the ‘In Flanders Field’ Museum located in the former cloth halls of Ypres. The museum presents the story of WW1 in the West Flanders front region. Afterwards you will have a guided coach tour around the 14 -18 route. This will normally stop at Essex Farm, where John McCrae wrote his famous poem, Langemarck Cemetery, which is only one of four German cemeteries in the region and to Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth cemetery in the world. Other sites including Hill 62, Sanctuary Wood and the Irish Peace Tower may be visited time permitting.
Day 3 Over the border and into France for a full day guided Somme Battlefield tour, starting with a visit to Lochnagar Crater, then to Thiepval Memorial and Newfoundland Park. You will continue the tour and visit Wellington Quarries in Arras, a large system of underground tunnels used by British troops.
Day 4 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.Back to top
