Day 1 Morning departure for the journey north and into the Lake District to Shap for a four night stay.
Day 2 We head to the former home of William Wordsworth, Dove Cottage, in the heart of the remote Lake District at Grasmere. Wordsworth lived here for 8 years and where 3 of his 5 children were born. Enjoy a guided tour through the cottage before taking a stroll around Dove Cottage Garden. Next we visit the Wordsworth Museum and discover the greatest collection of his handwritten letters, journals and poems before enjoying some free time in Grasmere. We then travel to the picturesque village of Hawkeshead with its whitewashed houses, archways and alleyways and where Wordsworth went to school.
Day 3 Today we visit Cockermouth and Wordsworth House and Gardens, his childhood home. Then some free time for lunch before departing for Coniston Water where we board the Victorian Steam Yacht Gondola for a sailing experience of the Lakes.
Day 4 Today we travel to Haverthwaite Station in the Leven Valley, where you can spend a little time looking in the gift shop or the Engine Shed, where they keep and maintain the diesel and steam locomotives, before joining the train for a journey through scenic countryside to Lakeside. Here you will rejoin the coach for more scenic views on route to Ambleside where you will board a boat for the transfer to Wray Castle, here Beatrix Potter at the age of 16 spent her summer holiday and where her love for the Lake District began. After the visit, we return to Ambleside by boat and the coach will return us to the hotel.
Day 5 After breakfast, we commence the homeward journey.
