Itinerary
Day 1 Early morning departure for the journey north and to your overnight stop.Day 2West Highlands to Skye: Travel along the shores of Loch Lomond, ‘The Queen of the Lochs’ and then Glencoe to Fort William for free time and lunch. Then travel along the Great Glen with loch and mountain scenery all the way. Stop for photos at Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most photographed castles, before reaching your hotel in Skye for one night.
Day 3Isle of Skye, Loch Maree and Ullapool: This morning you will tour Skye, stopping in Portree, the island’s colourful capital, before turning northwards into the vast region of Wester Ross. Along the shores of Loch Maree, regarded as one of Scotland’s bonniest lochs. Free time to take in the Highland air in Gairloch with its pretty harbour. From here your route snakes its way along the coastline, dotted with islands, inlets, beaches and cliffs before descending into the picture-perfect harbour town of Ullapool for one night.
NB: The hotel cannot confirm if they will provide a set menu dinner tonight. If not, we have booked a local restaurant also with a set menu.
Day 4Caithness and Sutherland on Route 500: Today’s tour makes up a large part of the North Coast 500 and it will leave a lasting memory too. Mile upon mile of crumbling cliffs, sheer rocky headlands, picturesque lochs, sheltered bay and deserted perfect white beaches to rival those abroad. It is here you will feel Scotland in an entirely different way. Lunch is included at the Smoo Cave, Durness and you will continue to Thurso for two nights.
Day 5The Orkney Isle: This morning you will travel to John O’Groats to board the 40 minute ferry crossing across the Pentland Firth. On arrival, a private coach and driver awaits to commence a magical day on the Orkneys crossing the Churchill Barriers, visiting 2000 year old Scara Brae, Ring of Brodgar, the Italian Chapel and Kirkwall with its 12th century cathedral. Returning to John O’Groats and to the hotel.
