Day 1 Early morning departure for the 08.15 hours sailing from Portsmouth to Caen and to the hotel in Lisieux for a four night stay.
Day 2 Free time in Lisieux to explore this charming town with its Basilica, St Pierre de Lisieux Cathedral and the Episcopal Palace and its garden. In the afternoon you travel to Chateau de Vendeuvre, a Normandy jewel to admire the finest collection of miniature furniture and objects and the water gardens where you will discover amusing water games hidden amongst the trees and follies.
Day 3 Travel to Rouen with time to explore this captivating city. Enjoy a fascinating walk through the architectural styles of the last 800 years, from half timbering of the Middle Ages to the Renaissance and the classical era. Notoriously known for where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake in 1431. The old marketplace is a good lunch stop before the afternoon visit to Chateaux de Champ du Bataille near Le Neubourg. Known as the ‘Norman Versailles’, it has recently been restored to its 18th Century splendour, with parks and gardens in the style of Louis XIV.
Day 4 Today you will travel to Fromagerie Graindorge in the heart of the Pays d’Auge where you will discover how the cheeses are made followed by a tasting of five cheese and a chance to buy. You will then travel to the Château du Breuil. Be fascinated by the activity at the Château du Breuil distillery and discover the distillation process for Calvados Pays d’Auge, a genuine symbol of the gourmet heritage of the Normandy region.
Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and travel to Bayeux for some free time then onwards to Caen for the 16.30 hours Brittany Ferries sailing to Portsmouth.
