Day 1 Morning departure for the journey north and to the hotel for a three night stay.
Day 2 Travel to the city of Durham, where the great loop of the River Wear’s wooded gorge provides a natural backdrop to its massive cathedral and castle. Downhill from the castle you can trace Durham’s medieval layout as you thread through the narrow winding streets. The Christmas Festival can be found in four markets with stalls, street theatre, jugglers and Victorian clad peddlers selling their wares. After plenty of time to wander the stalls and the festivities you will return to the hotel.
Day 3 Experience the magic of Christmas past and enjoy a truly unique festive atmosphere, in the Living Museum of the North. Discover how Christmas was celebrated in the 1820’s, 1900’s, 1940’s and new, the 1950’s. Admire traditional decorations around the museum, sample delicious Christmas baking and discover quirky gifts. You will find here Pockerley Old Hall, The Town, Rowley Station, The Fairground, Home Farm, Pitt Village and many more interesting areas. Most of the houses, shops and other buildings have been brought to Beamish, rebuilt and furnished as they once were. A truly lovely experience to be had by all here.
Day 4 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
