Itinerary
ItineraryDay 1 Early morning departure for the journey to Scotland and to the hotel in Drymen for a four night stay.
Day 2 Today you will travel into the scenic Trossachs through Aberfoyle and then over the spectacular ‘Dukes Pass’ to Loch Katrine. This scenic drive is often listed as one of the most beautiful in Britain. We have included a boat trip on Loch Katrine and you can relax and take in the history and scenery as you cruise on the loch. Afterwards you will continue your journey to Callander, a bustling tourist town situated on the River Teith. It is set dramatically beneath, high, wooded crags and gained fame as the location for the original Doctor Findlay’s Casebook TV series.
Day 3 This morning you will head to the capital city of Edinburgh. On arrival we have included a visit to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the King’s official residence and the home of Scottish royal history which stands at the end of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Explore the Palace’s close associations with some of Scotland’s most well-known historic figures such as Mary, Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie, learn how today it is used by the King when carrying out official engagements in Scotland. Afterwards you are free to explore this amazing city with its wealth of history. Take a stroll along Princes Street or visit the wonderful Edinburgh Castle, home of the yearly Edinburgh Tattoo, or one of many free museums and galleries.
Day 4 For today’s tour you will travel to Inveraray, located on the western shore of Loch Fyne. The town is an absolute set piece of Scottish Georgian architecture. Key buildings that are worth visiting include the neoclassical church and Inveraray’s jail and courthouse, now an award- winning museum that graphically recounts prison conditions from medieval times up until the 19th century. You will also be able to see Inveraray Castle in the distance, on the shore of Loch Fyne, which is Scotland’s longest sea loch and it is one of the earliest examples of Gothic Revival architecture.
Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
