LimoneDay 1 Morning departure for the journey to Dover for the ferry crossing to Calais. On arrival in Calais you will travel through France to your overnight stop in the Dijon area. (Bed and breakfast only.)

Day 2 Continuing your journey into Italy and to Riva Del Garda and the hotel for a five night stay.

Day 3 A visit to Verona, the second Roman settlement in Italy. When you arrive at Piazza Bra Square and see the Colosseum like Roman amphitheatre in the centre. The Arena continues to serve as a venue for entertainment and world class opera festivals throughout the summer. For the romantic, Juliet’s House with its famous balcony is just a stone’s throw from the main square. In the afternoon you will visit Valpolicelli, a wine taking its name from the region, is a light-bodied, fragrant wine which you will taste together with a snack on your visit to a local wine producer.

Day 4 Today you will cruise the north of the lake to Limone on the western shore, where streets weave in and out of the old lemon groves. Time for you to explore the centre and perhaps try some limoncino liqueur before continuing by boat to Malcesine on the eastern shore. It is a historic town at the foot of Mount Baldo, surrounded by cypress, olive and oleander trees. In its centre the Scaliger Castle is a splendid vestige of its medieval past. After free time the boat will take you back to Riva.

Day 5 This morning visit the enchanting 1000 year old city of Mantua, an important artistic and cultural hub of northern Italy. You will enjoy a walking tour of this old city before visiting the spiritual home of tortellini for lunch. Continue to Valeggio sul Mincio home to imposing fortifications built by ancient nobility, such as the Scaliger Castle and the Visconti bridge-dam, and elegant mansions, such as the Villa Maffei- Sigurta. You will enjoy striking views in this area.

Day 6 A visit to Toblino Lake where you will see a spectacular castle, and legend has it that the fairies lived there, and were respected and honoured by the local people. A small temple was even dedicated to them as mentioned on a plaque placed in the castle porch. The lake is surrounded by the scent of lemons, olives and rosemary. You will have a magnificent view of the lake and the castle from the wooden walkway running along the shore. Afterwards you will travel to a local distillery for a grappa tasting.
