Day 1 Morning departure for the journey to Rochester for some free time and lunch before continuing the journey to Southend and to the hotel for a four night stay.
Day 2 Today you will travel to Battesbridge Antiques Centre in a picturesque riverside setting, housing over 70 dealers. Afterwards onto historic Burnham-on-Crouch, once a thriving port and now a popular yachting centre, and also known for its oyster beds. You will then visit Tiptree, where Wilkin & Sons manufactures over 100 varieties of jam, with an interesting museum to view. Finally, you will spend some free time in the pleasant town of Chelmsford before returning to the hotel.
Day 3 A free day in the resort. As well as the famous pleasure pier, there is a Planetarium, a Sea Life Centre, museums and galleries, park and gardens for you to explore. The coach will transfer you to and from the hotel to the town.
Day 4 A short drive takes you to the historic town of Old Leigh before continuing to Tilbury to visit Tilbury Fort, on the Thames estuary, England’s best example of 17th century military engineering. Explore the magazine houses used to store vast quantities of gunpowder or enter the bastion magazine passages and feel what it was like for the soldiers who lived there. Travel on to Barleylands Craft Village at Billericay, home to over 60 craft studios where you can often watch the items being made.
Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey by way of Royal Tunbridge Wells with time to soak up the culture, admire the fascinating history and architecture of the famous colonnaded walkway – The Pantiles.
