South West Highlights And Smugglers In The West Country

Day 1 Morning departure for the journey to Devon, arriving late afternoon at hotel for a four night stay. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be served on arrival.

Days 2 to 4 A day free for you to explore the historic city of Plymouth. Take a stroll around the famous Hoe, visit the Barbican Steps and browse around the city centre shops.

We have included the following excursions:

• After breakfast journey to Pencarrow House and Gardens. A Georgian mansion that is still lived in by the same family who settled here in the 1500s. Enjoy a guided tour of the house learning the history and heritage of the Molesworth family. There is then free time to explore the delightful gardens at leisure. Later in the afternoon travel to Looe. This popular seaside town can keep visitors entertained all year round and retains its character as a bustling working fishing port.

• The final outing, is a drive to rugged Bodmin Moor and a stop at Jamaica Inn with its Daphne Du Maurier associations and a museum filled with smuggling artefacts collected over many years. From there travel to the North Cornwall coast and Tintagel with its dramatic castle ruins, also visit the pretty harbour at Port Isaac, the setting for TV’s Doc Martin and the film Fisherman’s Friends.

Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
