Itinerary
Day 1 Morning departure for the journey north for an overnight stop.Day 2 After breakfast, travel by coach to Aberfeldy to meet the kilted Safari Rangers who will transport you into Europe’s lost wilderness. From the mountain tops, the scenery is breath-taking with regular sightings of grouse, mountain hares, deer and golden eagles. (NB the Safari may need to be split into two groups, if this is the case each group will have free time in Pitlochry before or after each safari). Continue to Kingussie and the Duke of Gordon Hotel for a four night stay.
Day 3 Today you travel to Inverness, the Highland’s capital where you will have free time to explore. Its Old Town features the 19th century Inverness Cathedral, Old High Church and an indoor Victorian Market. Visit the contemporary Inverness museum and Art Gallery which traces local and Highland history. Afterwards you will travel to the coastal Dunrobin Castle, the most northerly of Scotland’s great houses and the largest in the Northern Highlands with 189 rooms. Dunrobin is also one of Britain’s oldest continuously inhabited houses dating back to the 1300s, and is home to the Earls and later, the Dukes of Sutherland.
Day 4 This morning head for Aviemore Station to join the Strathspey Railway for a stunning single train journey through the Scottish Highlands to Broomhill. You will then transfer to Grantown on Spey for some free time before heading to the Cairngorm National Park. Here, you will meet a ‘herder’ who will take you to the Visitor Centre, give you a talk and take you to the on-site paddock to see a few of the reindeer, and at certain times of the day you may be able to feed them too.
Day 5 Today you will travel the scenic route over the Dava Moor to Forres, a historic town off the Moray Coast, with floral gardens, a picturesque high street and plenty of eateries. Free time to obtain lunch, before travelling past Nairn and over the Kessock Bridge, Inverness to join the Inverness Spirit for a cruise into the Moray Firth and hopefully you may see a pod of resident dolphins.
Day 6 Time to leave Kingussie and head south for an overnight stop in the Perth area.
Day 7 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey
