Falkirk Wheel - Becky Duncan / Open Ay cicDay 1 Early morning departure for the journey north, over the border at Gretna and onto Drymen for a four night stay.Day 2 CHRISTMAS DAY Today you will travel into the scenic Trossachs through Aberfoyle and then over the spectacular ‘Dukes Pass’ to Loch Katrine. This scenic drive is often listed as one of the most beautiful in Britain. We have included a cruise on the loch within the National Park for you to relax and take in the history and scenery. You will then continue your journey to Callander, a bustling tourist town situated on the River Teith. It is set dramatically beneath high, wooded crags and gained fame as the location for the original Doctor Findlay’s Casebook TV series.
Day 3 NEW YEAR The excursion today takes you to the other side of Loch Lomond and on the breath-taking route over the ‘Rest and be Thankful’ Pass, the highest point on the A83 at 803 ft. above sea level and it divides Glen Kinglas from Glen Croe. Continuing on to the Royal Burgh of Inveraray on Loch Fyne. Enjoy some free time to explore the town before you continue your journey to Killin, a small village at the Falls of Dochart with a spectacular series of rapids at the western end of Loch Tay. Time for a wander in the village before returning to the hotel.
Day 4 You will travel to the Helix Park, home to The Kelpies, two 30 metre high horse head sculptures which are a true feat of engineering. They are the largest equine sculptures in the world. Time to admire and take photos before continuing to the Falkirk Wheel (subject to maintenance), where we have included a ride for you to enjoy the full experience of the wheel during a 60 minute journey, as you sail through the sky to join the Union Canal 35m above. After smoothly moving along the aqueduct and through the Roughcastle tunnel to the beginning of the Union Canal, you will then descend to the start at the Visitor Centre. On returning to the coach you will travel to Stirling for a short visit before returning to the hotel for an afternoon tea.
Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
