Godinton House © Visit KentDay 1 Morning departure for the journey to the east and to Polhill Garden Centre near Sevenoaks, the South East’s largest independent garden centre, along with outdoor living inspiration, homeware and gifts before continuing your journey to the hotel for a four night stay.
Days 2 to 4 We have included the following excursions:
• Travel to the seaside town of Hythe, one of the original Cinque Ports and board the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway to Dungeness. This line is known as ‘Kent’s Mainline in miniature, the world famous one third full size locomotives have powered their way along the 13 1/2 miles of track since 1928. Free time at Dungeness where you can enjoy a pint at the Pilot Inn and take in the surrounding sea views. Enjoy free time in Hythe afterwards to visit the characterful high street or stroll alongside the Royal Military Canal.
• Journey to Bodiam to board the train on the Kent and East Sussex Railway for a single journey through the unspoilt Rother Valley to Tenterden where there will be time to purchase lunch and wander around this historic market town. Later, visit Godington House and Gardens dating back to the 14th century. Follow the story of the house from medieval hall house, through to Jacobean splendour and Victorian elegance.
• A visit to Sheffield Park and Garden. Four lakes form the heart of this Grade I listed garden with influences of ‘Capability’ Brown and Humphry Repton. In the afternoon you will be taken to Sheffield Park station where you can visit the museum before embarking on a single train ride through the Sussex countryside to East Grinstead on the Bluebell Railway, the UK's first preserved standard gauge passenger railway.
