Day 1 Morning departure for the journey north to Northumberland and to Alnwick for a four night stay.Day 2 A scenic drive along the coast to Bamburgh Castle for a visit. Once home to the Kings of Northumbria, this spectacular castle offers 14 rooms with over 3,000 items of art, armour, furniture, porcelain and china, Armstrong and Aviation museum, tearoom and gift shop. After free time you will travel to Berwick-upon-Tweed, the most northern town in England and full of history. The River Tweed runs through its centre and is dominated by three iconic bridges.
Day 3 This morning you will visit Woodhorn Museum, the North East’s last remaining coal mining built heritage village. The museum is home to many interesting exhibits including a collection of artworks – commonly known as the ‘Pitmen Painters’, an iconic display showcasing what daily life was really like for miners from the 1930’s and reputed to be the first collection of amateur art to go on permanent display anywhere in the world. Afterwards you will travel to Hexham for free time to stroll around the market place.
Day 4 A free day in Alnwick to explore the medieval town and see St Michaels Church, Bailiffgate Museum, Hotspur Gin, the Cheese Room or Barter Books, one of the largest second hand book shops in England with over 350,000 books to choose from in an atmosphere of cosy peace and tranquillity.
Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
