North East History & Heritage, Newcastle

Day 1 Morning departure for the journey north to Newcastle for a four night stay.

Days 2 to 4 We have included the following excursions:

• Today meet your guide for a half day guided tour of Newcastle. Experience how the city has dramatically changed from ‘carrying coal’ to becoming the cultural hub within North East England. After the tour, the rest of the day will be at leisure to explore this fine city. See the Millennium ‘Winking Eye ‘ Bridge, stroll along the famous quayside or for some retail therapy, visit Eldon Square shopping centre.

• Journey to Beamish, The Living Museum of the North. This working museum, set in 300 acres of beautiful Durham countryside tells the story of the North East of England in the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods Ride restored trams and replica buses and see attractions including a working farm, and authentic town street and a traditional coal fired fish and chip shop!

• Full day in Durham. First take a 1 hour boat cruise onboard the Prince Bishop taking in the sites of the city from the River Wear. Free time afterwards to perhaps visit the magnificent cathedral or its winding cobbled streets before an afternoon visit to the wonderful Botanic Garden, located in the grounds of Durham University.

Day 5 After breakfast, depart hotel and commence the homeward journey
