Rouen

Itinerary

Monets Garden

Day 1 Early morning departure for the journey to Portsmouth and the sea crossing to Caen. On arrival you will travel on to Rouen for a four night stay.

Day 2 A circular tour along the banks of the River Seine to the coast and Etretat, best known for its cliffs, including three natural arches and the pointed "needle". Continuing along the coast to Fecamp for some free time before an included visit to the Benedictine Abbey and distillery for a tour and tasting.

Day 3 You will travel to Giverny to visit Monet's house and gardens made famous by his paintings of the waterlilies. The gardens are a delight with their abundance of colour, and the house is full of Monet’s paintings. You then travel to Les Andelys, a town dominated by the imposing Chateau Gailliard, built by Richard the Lionheart, with its spectacular views over the River Seine.

Day 4 A day at leisure in Rouen, situated on the banks of the River Seine, Normandy’s vibrant historic and cultural capital. Plenty of museums to explore, including the Gros Horlage clock, the oldest inn La Couronne and the beautiful church dedicated to Joan of Arc.

Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and you will travel to the town of Bayeux. An attractive town with a reasonably well-preserved medieval centre around the Cathedrale Notre Dame. You will have free time to explore and obtain lunch, and for those interested you could visit the Bayeaux Tapestry, displayed in the Centre Guillaume le Conquerant. You will then travel to the ferry port of Caen for the crossing to Portsmouth and your return journey home.
