Day 1 Early morning departure for the journey to Dover and the crossing to Calais. Continuing the journey into Germany and to the area of Cologne for an overnight stop.
Day 2 You travel east to the impressive Wartburg that is towering on a hill above Eisenach. Wander round the majestic fortress, the first German castle to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue on to Dresden and the hotel for a four night stay.
Day 3 Today a local guide will take you on a guided tour through Dresden to learn about this fascinating 800 year old city which rose again from the ashes to be lovingly restored after the Second World War, including a visit to the Transport Museum. In the afternoon you will travel to Freital-Hainsberg where you board the Weisseritztalbahn, a little train which will take you to the Dippoldiswalde, climbing 348m and where you will enjoy the impressive landscape. Dinner this evening will be served in a traditional restaurant in Dresden.
Day 4 Your journey today by paddlesteamer takes you along the waters of the Elbe which flows through the city. The 90 minute round trip from the city centre to Basewitz will give you a different perspective of the city. Then join the coach for the journey to Meissen, home to the famous Meissen porcelain and take a guided tour through the factory’s demonstration workshops. Returning to Dresden for free time before returning to hotel.
Day 5 Making your way to Radebeul East to join the Lossnitzgrundbahn to Moritzburg, this old steam train dates back to 1884. Then visit the Baroque Palace, an impressive park with numerous sculptures will be complemented by the rich interior of the Palace itself.
Day 6 Departing the Saxony area to head west to your overnight hotel in the Cologne area.
Day 7 Breakfast, then commence the homeward journey.Back to top
