Day 1 Morning departure and travelling north to arrive at the historic hotel in Lancashire for a four night stay.
Days 2 to 4 We have included the following excursions:
● Travel to Bolton to visit the Fred Dibnah Heritage Centre, based at the celebrity’s former home, where his work yard, tools and machinery are much as he left them. Later, you will travel to Blackburn for a taste of Lancashire at the Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, which houses a rich and fascinating collection of fine art, decorative art, Egyptology, coins, manuscripts, natural history, social history and a South Asian collection.
● First travel to Rochdale, the town where Gracie Fields grew up and where the Co-op movement started. In the hands of a local guide you will visit the nostalgic Co-op Pioneers Museum, the birthplace of the modern co-operative movement, where on 21st Dec 1844 the Pioneers opened their store selling pure food at fair prices and honest weights and measures. You will pass by the town’s masterpiece, the Town Hall, a fabulous Grade 1 Victorian Gothic building, renowned worldwide for its unique and detailed architecture. Afterwards its off to Bury where you will find the Market, one of the biggest and most vibrant in England for those who like to shop and we have also included entry to the Bury Transport Museum, where the industrial heritage of the North West is brought to life, with stunningly restored vehicles, original artefacts and interactive exhibits.
● Today travel into the lovely Lancashire Hills, first to the Pendle Heritage Centre for a short visit, located in the area where many ladies were accused of witchery. Then travel in to the scenic Forest of Bowland on some roads that the witch’s took to Lancaster where they were tried and hung. Afterwards take a return canal trip crossing the historic Lune Viaduct before enjoying some free time in the historic city of Lancaster. The final evening at the hotel will feature a buffet with a selection of dishes and drink hailing from Lancashire.
Day 5 After breakfast you will visit the Chocolate House for a demonstration of chocolate making, followed by sampling, and of course a chance to buy chocolate! Then commence the homeward journey.
