Tranquil Lake Iseo is one of the best kept secrets in northern Italy. We will take you for a journey to discover this hidden jewel. You will ride on the ‘Trento dei Sapori’ (Train of Flavours) and visit some charming towns along the way.
PLEASE NOTE: Price is per person and based on two people sharing a twin/double room. Single room supplements and upgrades are not included.
Day 1 Early morning departure for the journey to Folkestone and the crossing to Calais and on to Dijon for an overnight stop. (Dinner not included).
Day 2 Continuing the journey into Italy and to Castenedolo, in the province of Brescia, for a five night stay.
Day 3 Today you will head toItaly’s largest lake, Lake Garda,where olive, lemon and palmtrees flourish. You will visitthe peninsular of Sirmione with its lovely medieval castle before continuing along the eastern coast and make a stop at one of the well-known towns of Garda, Bardolino or Lazise.
Day 4 This morning you will visit Verona, the romantic city of Romeo and Juliet and you will enjoy a two hour guided tour of this lovely city to see the magnificent Roman Amphitheatre, Juliet’s balcony and many other famous sights. In the afternoon you will visit a winery in the Valpolicella area and taste the local excellences.
Day 5 Today is the highlight of the tour. You will start your culinary train ride in Iseo from Pisogne enjoying an aperitif and lunch of local specialities on board the ‘Train of Flavour’. This train will take you on a multi-sensory journey where art, culture, history, nature, and food and wine meet on board. It is a completely renovated early 20th-century train which was featured on TV in Gino D’Acampo’s Italian Express series. In the afternoon you will board a boat and travel from Sulzano to Monte Isola, one of Europe’s tallest lake islands, 600m high surrounded by the lake, to visit the pretty village of Peschiera Maraglio before returning by boat to Iseo.
Day 6 Today you will travel to Mantua, a Renaissance jewel, rich in culture and art treasures. See the San Giorgio Castle, the Ducal Palace rising above a moat of artificial lakes and the four main squares which are themselves masterpieces of great architecture and where pint-sized bars and boutiques spill onto the piazzas. In the afternoon you will discover the quaintest village in Italy, the picturesque hamlet of Borghetto, built in 1400 around a series of water mills used to grind corn and grow rice along the River Mincio.
Day 7 Time to leave and retrace your steps back to Dijon for an overnight stop. (Dinner not included).
Day 8 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
