Holiday ItineraryJuliet's Balcony, Verona
Day 1 Early morning departure for the journey to Folkestone and the crossing to Calais. On arrival you will continue the journey to your overnight stop.
Day 2 Continuing the journey through Austria to Italy and along Italy’s largest lake to the town of Garda for a stay of five nights.
Day 3 Today you will visit one of the most important vestiges of the Roman Empire located on the southern shores of Lake Garda. The Catullo ‘Grottoes’ on the Sirmione peninsula are ruins of a residential complex surrounded by picturesque olive groves. The villa included thermal baths where the poet Catullus enjoyed spending time. Although the house was not built until after his death, the area took his name. Today only part of the ruins have been uncovered and a museum helps visitors understand its history. Since 2012 the government have started to cultivate the 1,500 olive trees, some of which are centuries old. Free time to wander along the streets of Sirmione with its lovely promenade with cafés, restaurants and shops. You will also taste the famous olive oil of this area.
Day 4 This morning you will enjoy a cruise to Malcesine on the eastern shore. A historic town at the foot of Mount Baldo, surrounded by cypress, olive and oleander trees. In its centre the Scaliger Castle is a splendid vestige of its medieval past. After some time to walk around the lively little centre, you will take the boat to Limone, on the western shore. Its labyrinthine streets weave in and out of the old lemon groves. The restored Castel lemon grove is an open-air museum which invites visitors to learn about its history and to taste the limoncello. After some free time in this charming area you will travel by boat to Riva del Garda; another stunning town and the most northern village on the lake. You will return to the hotel by coach.
Day 5 A day at leisure. The town of Garda not only gave Lake Garda its name, but it also has what seemingly is the most stunning location on its shores.
Day 6 A visit to Vicenza, the ‘City of Palladio’ and recognized by UNESCO as the place in which an unparalleled movement in architectural history was born. In the 16th century Venetian architect, Andrea Palladio, created public and private buildings based on ancient styles, which is fitting, as the city itself was founded in the 2nd century B.C. Your guide will show you some of his amazing work in this stunning city. Elegant shops and charming cafés are interwoven in between the marvellous buildings. The tour continues to Bassano del Grappa, a town that takes the name of its best brew. A stop will be made at a grappa distillery for a tasting and free time to take photos of its unique bridge over the Brenta River.
Day 7 Unfortunately it is time to leave Garda and travel north, through Austria to your overnight stop.
Day 8 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
