Itinerary

Day 1 Morning departure for the journey north to the Lake District and to Grange-over- Sands for a four night stay.

Day 2 A scenic drive through the picturesque Lake District to the pretty picture-postcard village of Grasmere, home to Wordsworth and where he wrote these famous words, ‘I wandered lonely as a cloud’, inspired by the flowers and scenery. Free time to enjoy this little village and make sure you visit Sarah Nelson’s Grasmere Gingerbread shop where you can buy the best gingerbread in the world. Then onto the lovely market town of Keswick, nestled between the majestic Skiddaw Mountains and Derwentwater.

Day 3 Today you embark on a journey through the Leven Valley on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway to Lakeside, established as a steamer pier for services along the lake. From here you will cruise along Windermere to Bowness, a sprawling tourist town. Free time to enjoy lunch and take a stroll around the town before departing for the return journey to the hotel.

Day 4 Today you will travel to Glenridding for a cruise on Ullswater with stunning views from all angles. Afterwards you will head to Kendal and to Sizergh House and Gardens, home to the Strickland family for over 750 years. Most of the castle dates from 15th – 18th century, except the 14th century 60 ft tower. The gardens contain the Trust’s largest limestone rock garden.

Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey Back to top
