Itinerary

Cairngorms

Day 1 Morning departure for the journey to the Lake District and to Shap for an overnight stop.

Day 2 Continuing the journey through the Lowland Hills past Glasgow, Perth and Pitlochry to arrive at Grantown-on-Spey for a four night stay.

Days 3 to 5 We have included the following excursions:

  • Journey to Drumnadrochit where you will visit Loch Ness Experience. Here, uncover the real Loch Ness story and the legend behind Scotland’s most famous loch. Take a walk through 500 million years of history to explore the myths & legends and uncover hidden secrets. Afterwards, follow in the footsteps of Queen Victoria as you embark on a two hour voyage through the legendary waters of Loch Ness. Glide past the panoramic views of Aldourie Castle, the enchanting Bona Lighthouse, and the majestic Urquhart Castle and discover the fascinating theories behind the world’s most elusive monster! Finish the day with some free time in the Highland capital, Inverness, which has a rich blend of history, heritage and culture.

  • This morning travel through the Cairngorm National Park to the Braemar Highland Games Centre, where you will have a private demonstration. With a rich history, dating back 900 years, hear unique stories of the games and gatherings throughout the ages, celebrating the deep-rooted cultural and sporting traditions of Scotland including the finest pipe bands, highland dancers, the kilt, the caber toss and in a stunning setting surrounded by heather clad mountains. We return to Grantown-on-Spey to enjoy some free time to explore the high street or take a walk in the nearby Anagach Woods.

  • This morning travel to the north of Kingussie to gain an insight into the age-old artistry of sheep herding at Working Sheepdogs, home of a masterful pack of working border collies, renowned for gracefully herding sheep and employing techniques honed over centuries. The demonstration takes place in a field adjacent to where the coach is parked. The ground is uneven, but it shouldn't pose a problem. Wheelchair users should be fine as you don't need to go far and the demonstration can be watched from the car parking area. A lunch stop will be made in Kingussie before a visit to the Highland Folk Museum. Immerse yourself in the domestic and working lives of highland people through the ages at the 80-acre award-winning Highland Folk Museum, as it is brought to life by costumed actors among restored buildings and machinery, as they describe historic farm practices. Uneven ground: Surfaces vary in texture and gradient. Suitable footwear is recommended.

Day 6 Sadly, it is time to say goodbye and start the journey south for an overnight stop.
