Day 1 Early morning departure for the journey north, over the border and on to Aberfoyle for an overnight stop.
Day 2 Today you make the journey through the Trossachs, and through Scotland’s outdoor capital; Glencoe. The road through Glencoe takes you through the heart of an ancient volcano, the amazing scenery made famous in films such as James Bond and Harry Potter. You travel onwards past Ben Nevis where you will enjoy a photo stop at the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct before arriving in Mallaig in time to board the late afternoon ferry to Lochboisdale on South Uist (dinner on board). On arrival you will then travel to Benbecula and the hotel for a two night stay.
Day 3 Today you explore everything that South Uist has to offer with your tour guide. Hear the tales of Flora Macdonald who helped smuggle Bonnie Prince Charlie escape to France after the Jacobite defeat at Culloden and enjoy stories of local statues and standing stones.
Day 4 Time to leave Benbecula and travel through North Uist where you will board the ferry at Berneray for the crossing to Leverburgh on the Isle of Lewis, the largest of the Hebridean Islands. A rugged landscape of moorland, deep-sea lochs, mountains and impressive beaches. Against this backdrop is a proud history dating back to prehistoric times. You will travel along the spine of Harris, stopping in Tarbert for a weaving demonstration of the world famous Harris Tweed, then on to the hotel for a two night stay at the island’s capital of Stornoway.
Day 5 A full day tour of Lewis, with an experienced island guide, includes the impressive 5,000 year old standing stones of Callanish (Scotland’s Stonehenge, but older). Carloway Broach, a fortified tower dating back over 2,000 years, Whalebone Arch and the beaches of Dalmore and Dalbeg. Also included is a visit to the ancient thatched ‘Blackhouses’, a typical crofting settlement.
Day 6 This morning you will board the 07.00 hours ferry for the 2½ hour sailing to Ullapool. Continue south through picturesque Speyside to Dumfries for your final night’s stop.
Day 7 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
