Holiday Itinerary

Lake Constance (by Roman S)

Day 1 Early morning departure for the journey to Dover for the crossing to Calais. Continuing on to Forbach for an overnight stop.

Day 2 Continue your journey into Austria and to Feldkirch for a stay of six nights.

Day 3 Today you will travel to Schaffhausen, home to the Rhine Falls, the largest waterfalls in Europe. Take a boat ride right up to the thundering falls and feel the power of the water. Afterwards travel on to Stein am Rhein, a historical gem with its market square of beautifully painted houses. Then arrive in Constance for a visit before travelling along the Swiss coast of Lake Constance through Rorschach and return to Feldkirch.

Day 4 Your journey takes you to Weingarten with a beautifully constructed Basilica, famed for its large Gabler organ. Then continue to Ravensburg an old imperial city still surrounded by a city wall with very well preserved buildings from the middle ages, and on to Tettnang where you will first visit the museum and learn how important hops are, and also enjoy tasting the beer. Returning past Bregenz – the capital of Voralberg.

Day 5 Travelling over the German Alpen Road and along the impressive Bavarian Northern Alps to Fussen. You will ride either a horse-drawn carriage or a minibus up to the fairy tale castle of Neuschwanstein. This view is known throughout the entire world and you will have time to tour this magnificent castle surrounded by hills and forests. Returning over the Riedberg pass and through Bregenzerwald to the hotel.

Day 6 Today travel to the heart of Switzerland, in the area famed by William Tell. First you will pass Lucerne with its unique Chapel Bridge and the beautiful old town before you experience the highlight of this tour. With the world’s steepest rack railway, you will travel from Alpnachstad to the peak of Pilatus. The view of the impressive Swiss Alps will stay in your memory forever.

Day 7 Drive to Dornbirn in the Rhine Valley and then over the Bödele with a great view of Lake Constance. The first village is Schwarzenberg where the famous painter, Angelika Kauffman grew up. Here ride the nostalgic Wälderbähnle to Bezau, this is a museum railway and therefore does not travel on a ‘normal’ schedule. Next go on to Schoppernau to taste the ‘Bergkäse’ cheese with a glass of milk. You will then travel over the Hochtannberg Pass to the famous ski resorts of Lech and Zürs, where many prominent families have spent their winter holidays. Returning over the Flexen Pass to Bludenz, the chocolate city with a great Suchard chocolate shop. Day 8 Time to depart Feldkirch for the journey back to Forbach and the hotel for an overnight stop. Day 9 Breakfast, then commence the homeward journey. Please note that this tour involves steps and steep slopes. Suitable footwear is advisable.
