ItineraryBrittany Ferry in Santander
Day 1 To Portsmouth where you join the 17.15 hours Brittany Ferries sailing to Spain. The Pont Aven offers three bars, restaurants, cinema, open deck space and live entertainment. Your comfortable two berth inside cabins (bunk beds) have shower, washbasin and toilet.
Day 2 Arrival in Santander is scheduled for 18.15 hours. Rejoin the coach and travel the short distance to Suances for a five night stay. Enjoy your welcome drink and tapas before dinner.
Day 3 Today the Picos de Europa Mountains await you. You will travel through spectacular valleys to reach Potes to take a break. This small town is set by the river and boasts a Palace and Monastery. Continue into the mountains to Fuente De where we have included a cable car ride high into the mountains, and enjoy the spectacular views. On your return journey passing through the River Dere Valley, before making a stop in the delightful coastal town of San Vicente de la Barquera.
Day 4 Today the excursion includes a visit to Santillana del Mar, a medieval village with cobbled streets, full of stonebuilt mansions dripping with heraldic emblems and best described as a living museum. After free time, continue to Comillas, a beautiful town with wonderful beaches and architecture. We have included a visit to Gaudi’s ‘El Capricho’ his most important building outside Barcelona.
Day 5 Day at leisure in Suances, a small resort with a fine sandy beach which is only 400 metres away and the town is close by too. Lunch is included in the hotel today.
Day 6 Today travel to Bilbao, an industrial port surrounded by green mountains. It's famed for the Frank Gehry designed Guggenheim Museum, which houses modern and contemporary works. Time at leisure to explore its Old Town including St James Cathedral and the Plaza Nueva where you can try one of the city's best Pintxos. Tonight we have a special cake and a glass of Sidra.
Day 7 Leaving our hotel after breakfast and travel the short distance to Santander for some free time to explore this magnificent bustling city with its majestic buildings and squares before joining the 15.15 hours Brittany Ferries departure to Portsmouth - make sure you are on deck when she sails - the views of Santander are magnificent as the ship sails down the river to the sea. Around 16.30 hours is a good time to be on deck to look for the dolphins and sometimes whales that can be seen in the Bay of Biscay.
Day 8 Arrival in Portsmouth is scheduled for 14.15 hours, and homeward to your pick-up point.
