Itinerary
Itinerary
New LanarkDay 1 Early morning departure for the journey north, cross the border and continue to Symington and the hotel for a four night stay.Day 2 This morning you will travel first to Rosslyn Chapel, a truly compelling and unique building surviving the turbulent times of the Reformation, immortalised in Dan Brown’s film ‘The da Vinci Code’ starring Tom Hanks. It is one of the most famous chapel’s in the world surrounded by myths and legends of the ‘Holy Grail’. Afterwards you will travel into Edinburgh for an afternoon of exploring this magnificent city and its festivities spread from St Andrew Square to East Princes St Gardens Street.
Day 3 This morning you will travel to New Lanark where we have included a visit to the award-winning New Lanark Visitor Centre. The centre tells the fascinating story of the cotton mill village which was founded in the 18th century. The town quickly became known under the enlightened management of social pioneer, Robert Owen. He provided decent homes, fair wages, free health care, a new education system for villagers and the first workplace nursery school in the world. In the afternoon you will visit Biggar with time to explore before returning to the hotel.
Day 4 First visit today will be the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, visit the humble cottage where he was born, see over 5,000 artefacts including his handwritten manuscripts and why not celebrate the legacy of Burns with haggis, neeps and tatties in the museum café. In the afternoon you will visit the towns of Ayr and Troon before returning to the hotel.
Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey
